Medicinal manicure
Medicinal manicure is a complex of procedures aimed at restoring the health of nails and the skin around them. It is performed by specialists who have knowledge in the field of dermatology or work in collaboration with a doctor. It may include:
- delicate trimming or polishing of nails;
- cuticle treatment without injury;
- antiseptic baths;
- application of medicinal oils, serums, or creams;
- the use of remedies for fungus, brittleness, delamination, and other problems.
When is a medicinal manicure needed?
Brittleness, delamination, or discoloration of nails. The appearance of spots, grooves, or deformations. Ingrown nails or persistent hangnails. Dryness, cracks, or inflammation of the skin around the nails. Signs of fungal or bacterial infections. Rehabilitation after nail extensions or gel polish.
When should you see a dermatologist?
- If the nails suddenly change color (yellow, green, black spots).
- Severe peeling, itching, or inflammation around the nails.
- The nails have become thick, brittle, or have an unpleasant odor.
- Purulent discharge or pain has appeared – this may be a sign of: fungal infection (onychomycosis), nail psoriasis, a skin disease.
- Nail dystrophy (thinning).
Is it necessary to take tests?
Yes, sometimes it is necessary, especially if a fungal or bacterial infection is suspected.
A dermatologist may prescribe:
- a nail scraping for microscopy and culture;
- a blood test (to detect inflammatory processes or fungus);
- allergy tests (if contact dermatitis is suspected).
